Kotte is a Colombo suburb surrounded by Diyawanna Lake. This area of Colombo district is more residential friendly than 1 to 14 zones of Colombo city due to its beautiful surroundings and low density population.
Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, commonly known as Kotte, is the capital of Sri Lanka while Colombo city which was used as the main urban centre during British rule, remains commercial capital.
Kotte was the last kingdom in ancient Sri Lanka ruled by King Parākramabāhu VI in 1450. Ruins of historic buildings and fort are for those who are interested in archaeology.
